Getting There
Whatever stage you have reached in life you are always likely to have outstanding needs and wants, some identified and some perhaps still subconscious. It is normal to be motivated to want to achieve more. In fact, Abraham Maslow has identified the stages we go through in his hierarchy of needs. The unstated undercurrent of Maslow's concept is the importance of economic freedom in striving for personal fulfilment. In other words very little would be achieved without the proper application of financial resources.
We have borrowed Maslow's concept to illustrate below how someone reaching the autumn of their life might apply their resources to achieving their version of personal fulfilment.
The examples we use are not necessarily everyone's cup of tea. Not everyone would feel the need to express their personal fulfilment through ownership of a racehorse, or even in any economic terms. Some would find fulfilment through spiritual or emotional development,
so the hierarchy below should only be viewed as an example. It does not provide advice or a recommended course of action. Individual advice should be sought before making financial decisions. Yet as indicated above very little can be achieved without the application of some resources, most of which have a financial underpin.
In the final analysis only you will know what personal growth and fulfilment means to you.
